in our many voices that the darkest days of our community shall not be the final word heard from ross. -- heard from us. we will care for one another with our love and our compassion. in those early hours of the crisis, it became clear to we clergy and faith leaders here in newtown that an initial community response would be needed, that we would need to come together. and so we asked our first select woman and superintendent if it might be possible for the clergy to gather the community here at newtown high school, to continue and to begin what will be for many along journey through grief and loss. we are not here to ignore our differences or diminish our core beliefs, which define our many different faith traditions, but to offer our love, care, and prayers to our families and our community. we wanted to offer a our voices in the form of words from our sacred text and prayers from the depths of our being. but we also wanted to gather together in silence. so, that is what we will do. we will have a time for sharing and for prayer, and also a time for silence in between, so that all o

their recent constitutional amendment voted to place, my friend of ross miller -- he was considering vests and this is what i have been talking about in west virginia. i talk about some of our vendors offering me electronic poll books that can store a photo or take a picture so that no one is disenfranchise and they don't have to pay even $5 for a photo id. you think that is not a lot but that is the $10 in dazzling money to run here and a $10 more to run here to get the other ideas. that is what we cannot have. what i show is what is working in west virginia and that's why it is a bigger picture. it is not a panacea that a photo id will solve all problems. i have to play zone defense on all of this, on every different aspect. we have to stay vigilant with what ever bought a set -- foes system we are using. >> what do you think of that? >> i did not add to your question before and i still will not answer your question. you are asking the right question - [laughter] >> you, professor. >> that is from a big picture perspective. it has been an on/off switch. are we going to have it or not to?

one is secretary ross miller from nevada. he was first elected in 2007 as the youngest secretary of state in nevada's history. he's currently the president of maps. he was honored by the aspen institute as of 24 rising stars in governments and he has successfully fought for campaign and election reforms in his state. nevada is one of the states that has been working with us and working with other states to form the electronic registration information center, an exciting new development you will hear a little more about. our second panelist will be heather smith from rock the vote. many of you have met her on previous occasions. with some of the best data and the business -- uniform consensus across the country -- she does an excellent job. under her leadership, she has built new tools and refined best practices for the engagement of young voters which has resulted in record numbers of registrations. prior to rock the vote, she founded and directed young voter strategies, a project at the george washington university school of management which supports the pew charitable trusts. o
